The
National Alliance For Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Vocational Rehabilitation
(NAMSFVR) is an organization started by Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker
Rehabilitation Projects funded under section 304 of the 1998 Rehabilitation
Act and by other interested parties.
Many
farms and employers hire migrating or seasonal workers to bring in crops
or other agricultural products. Farmworkers are the poorest group of workers
in the U.S. Agricultural employment is currently listed by the Department
of Labor as having the highest rate of fatalities and injuries among workers
in the U.S., followed by mining.
The
projects are designed to provide innovative and culturally appropriate
consumer directed employment services to migrant, agricultural and or
seasonal farmworkers with a disability. The first projects received appropriations
as training and demonstration grants in 1980.
